Other proposals include:
- Abolishing the points system to to “end the culture of equivalence” which suggests that all A-levels are of equal value. The Government must admit that “rigourous” subjects like mathematics are worth more than qualifications in “soft” subjects like media studies.

Only 50 per cent of comprehensive schools offer Further Maths A Level, putting many out of contention for Maths and Physics degrees at better universities, the report found.
Instead of threatening universities, the group says, OFFA should focus on pushing schools to offer such subjects.
James Clappison, another member of the Fair Access gruop, called for an “urgent review of OFFA’s powers and focus to ensure it supports our world class universities and doesn’t undermine them.”
He added: “I am very concerned that appointing Professor Ebdon to OFFA will have a very negative effect on the ongoing quality of the university sector.”
